The Operation of Faith: Complete in Eternity

Colossians 2:10

And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

Have you ever thought about the reason the scripture says we are complete in Christ?

COMPLETE - make (something) whole or perfect.

The truth is we spent our whole lives incomplete. I want to show you a mystery that can only be perceived by the Spirit.

Proverbs 8:22-23

22 The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

The soul of Jesus Christ, was joined to the Holy Ghost, before the earth ever was. He was possessed by the Spirit of the Lord. Thus, in the beginning was the Word and the Word became flesh (John 1:1,14). Thus, Jesus was before the world was. However, consider the following scripture.

Proverbs 8:30-31

29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:

30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;

31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.

It seems that before the world was that the Lord had interaction with mankind as well. The sons of men were present before the world was. I thought Adam was made on the 6th day of creation, how then are the sons of men present before the first day of creation? Well, because the soul is eternal. All souls were in eternity before the world was. As He has said in Ezekiel 18:4 - all souls are mine. Follow me as I take this further.

Take a look at this scripture,

Genesis 2:4-5

4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,

5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

Ask yourself, where were the plants before it grew? Did not God speak to the plants and tell them to come forth? But, this scripture is causing us to know that the plants existed before they grew in the earth. Where did they exist? They existed in His heart.

Matthew 12:34

You brood of vipers! How can you speak good things, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

The above scripture is true for God as well. He speaks out of that which fills (abundance) His heart. Thus, when He said let there be light, light was first in His heart; in His mind. Thus, likewise all souls dwelt in the mind of God. However, God did a special work with some of them.

2 Timothy 1:9

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

God knew those that would choose Him in time, He joined them to the Holy Spirit in eternity, before the world ever began. Thus, we were the sons of God before the world ever began. However, it was not manifested in time yet. Look at the verse that follows the one above.

1 Timothy 1:10

But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

The fact that God gave us grace (the life of Christ) before the world was, is being manifested now by the preaching of the gospel. Through the preaching of the gospel, men are saved.

Those that were predestined to be in Christ, will hear the gospel and believe. They will believe unto the receiving of the Holy Spirit. This belief is a manifestation of the choice they made in eternity. Thus, they will receive the Spirit in time.

It is then clear, that before receiving the Holy Spirit, we were never truly complete. We were living a life with part of us missing, and that part was Christ. Thus we could not be fulfilled by anything in this world. We did not quite fit in. We were unfinished.

Psalm 139:16

Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance [as time goes on] were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

We were unperfect, unfinished, incomplete; but now by being placed in Christ we are finally complete. Our souls are saved and preserved in Christ. We are brought back to our original estate. We are redeemed. We are the sons of God.
