Women in Ministry Series: The Seed of the Woman

Thus far, we have seen how God made the woman to be a help meet for the man i.e. to help him carry out the work of the ministry and to be a wife and companion. However, when the forbidden fruit was eaten, Eve was cursed and was subjected to be ruled by the man. She lost most of her ministerial responsibilities and God very rarely used the woman to head up His mighty moves. Nevertheless, God in His wisdom and faithfulness left a promise to the woman before laying the curse upon her.

Genesis 3:14

14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Even though the enemy prevailed in taking mankind off course, God promised the serpent, that he will be destroyed by the seed of the woman. This is extremely profound! To see just how profound it is, one must first understand the law of seed.

THE LAW OF SEED

Genesis 1:11

And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

Every seed produces after its own kind. As it relates to humanity, the seed was given to the man, that he may reproduce by the woman. The woman, has no seed of her own, rather, she receives the seed and incubates the development of it. However, in the curse, God mentions that the woman was given a seed.

...and between thy seed and her seed...

THE SEED OF THE WOMAN

Luke 1:35

And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

The promise was given to Eve that she would come forth with a seed without the help of a man. Her seed will have the power to destroy the works of the devil. This seed is Christ; that was manifested in Mary, not by the will of flesh, but by the power of God. Christ is the seed that God gave to the woman.

Notice how God gave the promise to Eve, despite this, she never came forth with that seed. It was not until 4000 years later that the seed was manifested in Mary. Thus, we see that when God spake of the "seed of the woman" he was not speaking concerning Eve only, but He was prophesying that one day women will have a seed. This promise was first evident in Mary, but it continues to other women, by way of the Holy Ghost.

After Christ died and resurrected, He received the power to return to us by way of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is the seed of God which fills whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord. Thus, if the woman calls upon the name of the Lord to be saved, she will receive the seed of God, not in the womb, but in the heart.

1 Peter 1:22-23

22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

1 John 3:9

Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

Christ is the seed that remains in the flesh of the sons of God ("whosoever" refers both men and women). However, let us not forget the purpose of seed. Seed is given to be able to produce after its own kind. Thus a woman can, by the seed within her, produce a son of God. When she prays, preaches, prophesies, lay hands, etc, she has the ability to impart the seed of God that is in her to others. She is able to give life. She is able to give the Holy Ghost.

God leaves no stone unturned. He never left the woman out in his plan of salvation. Truly she is called to the work of the ministry, to give life to whomever would hearken to her words.

See you tomorrow as we review a few mighty women of God in the Old Testament.
