We are taking this time to examine what our salvation really is. To do so the Lord has led me to Hebrews 10:19-20
Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
If you have been following with this series you should be able to understand this scripture. It is making a parallel between the 'way to God' established in the Old Covenant, as opposed to the New Covenant. In the Old Covenant, one would have to find spotless animals and use them as sacrifices and as an atonement of their sins. However, we have the Lamb of God (Jesus) as our atonement! God placed the sins of the world, upon Him that slaughtered Him upon a cross. However, there is a comparison that is necessary to be made if we are going to understand the above scripture.
Yes, the animal sacrifices in the Old Covenant were seen as pure enough to remit sin, however, after they died, they could do nothing about the sin that would return to the people immediately after. These sacrifices were then powerless to achieve true sinlessness in the life of an individual. When they died, they stayed dead, and thus had no influence on the lives of those that they had atoned. They could not change the sin that was in their flesh.
However, Jesus Christ, the lamb of God, died on the cross, but He didn’t stay dead – He was resurrected in 3 days! After this, He returned to glory and is now presenting Himself in the form of the Holy Ghost! Now, this sacrifice can continue to have an impact in the lives of those He atoned. He can come inside of them and live a sinless life for them, by living through their bodies. He will live this holy sinless life through their bodies only if they allow Him to.
Hence, because the Old Covenant is no more - He is a new way, and since He was resurrected He is a living way! Nevertheless the new and living way is Jesus Christ, or as Paul puts it ‘his flesh’. His flesh simply refers to the body that belongs to Jesus by way of Him being in it.
His flesh is the new man, which God gave to us at salvation. His flesh is the wrapping paper we spoke of at the beginning of this series and proved it sinless. His flesh is holy and righteous, and He has given us His flesh as a gift that we can live a sinless life. His flesh, is Christ in the flesh – Jesus Christ the son of man!
Jesus saith unto him, I AM THE WAY, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. – John 14:6
