When we examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith, very few of us judge our imagination using the word of God. It’s easy to look to our lifestyle or actions to see if we are in the spirit or not, but hopefully after this week, you will be equipped to go past these outward things and judge your heart.
The imagination is the part of you that records memories, and stores your present or future experiences. Not only can it bring to your mind the experiences that you had when you were a toddler, but it will paint a picture so vivid that you feel like you are reliving the experience. The power of the imagination is its ability to present your soul with possibilities that may not exist for you in the real world; meaning it does not have to rely on facts, logic or anything real - it can create its own reality.
I want you to seriously ponder these things, and allow the Lord to give you insight on the workings of your own imagination. What memories come to mind? What experiences are you living and reliving? Jesus said, “That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart” (Matthew 5:28). This lets us know that the imagination can be a place where evil is done.
It is also a place for righteousness to be experienced and for a love for God to be expressed. Philippians 4:8 says - “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Your imagination does not have to be a place where lust and unrighteousness is lived out; it can be used to glorify and praise God. It can be the place where you express your affection for the things above, and not the things on this Earth.
