Luke 22:31-32
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
The scripture ministers a concept that many people need to hear. Let’s allow it to minister to us.
Firstly, it blows my mind how Jesus is so spiritually aware of his sheep. None of the disciples had the Holy Ghost yet. They all had the spirit of iniquity dwelling in them while they accompanied Jesus in His ministry. However, Jesus shepherded (or should I say evangelized) them in such a way that their hearts came to a place of resentment for the sin in their lives. So much so, that Satan could ask for permission to sift them as wheat.
Sift in this analogy means to shake by trials.
The wheat is the substance that is of good use to the Father
Chaff is the debris that will be discarded and burned
Satan was allowed the go-ahead to sift Peter in that a few moments later Peter entered into a trial. However, even though God allowed the trial, Jesus prayed for Peter's faith to “fail not”.
There is one of two things that will happen to you if you are sifted. You will either be manifest that you were always chaff, or the shaking of the trial will remove the debris (carnal mindsets and/or instability) and cause you to be pure as refined gold.
Which are you? Wheat or chaff?
