The Fear of the Lord

In the middle of a session, the Lord began to speak to me about the fear of the Lord.

“Prayer without humility means nothing. Remember that humility is to obey, believe and agree with God. When you approach me in prayer, it is your humility that guarantees an answer. This is why the fear of the Lord is so crucial. Without the fear of the Lord, you will never ensure that you are actually acceptable to me. Without it, you will never ensure that you are fit to approach my throne. The fear of the Lord will cause you to approach Me either in the Spirit of holiness and reverence because you are already pleasing to me, or in the Spirit of repentance because you are seeking to return to me.”

Proverbs 8:13

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

When you walk in the fear of the Lord, you recognize that every breath you take is by the mercy of God. It causes you to walk in godly fear. Godly fear keeps you in the bounds of holiness, while the fear of the world turns you away from God.

The fear of the Lord produces a spirit of sobriety. It is with this sobriety that you watch for your soul. It allows you to examine every thought, emotion, word, and deed whether it came from God. Therefore, the fear of the Lord mixed with sobriety is the power to abide in humility for the rest of your life.

REFERENCE SCRIPTURE - Philippians 2:8,12-15

Humility is to Obey God

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

The Fear of the Lord keeps you in Humility (Obedience)

12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

The Source of Our Holiness is God

13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

Seeing that the source of our holiness is God, we must walk in the fear of the Lord and sobriety to ensure that we are pleasing to Him, that He may continue to work in us.

Verse 14 - The fear of the Lord causes you to do what God is saying without murmuring or disputing against Him. This is agreement with God.

Verse 15 - If you do the above, God will be blameless and innocent (harmless). In other words, you are now considered humble. Seeing that you are humble, you will not need rebuke (abasement).
