There’s a scripture that talks about a confrontation between the Peter the Apostle and the leaders of the church at that time. Apparently, God told him to go preach the Gospel and the leaders of the Church told Him not to preach the Gospel. But what I found interesting was the matter-of-fact response that came afterward. Peter asked the men’ “Should I rather obey man than God?”. That question seemed so profound and yet so simple at the same time! The answer seems to be so simple and rhetorical, but it is a question worth examining.
How many times have you been faced with temptations or tests that completely contradicted the instructions you know you received from God? The test may have even been just the rules of society that dictated what is acceptable and good to do in a certain setting. But I have come to realize that many of these norms of society are direct contractions to the Word of God. This is why the scriptures tell us not to be conformed to the image of the World.
So the next time you are faced with such a dilemma, ask yourself the simple question, “Who should I obey?”
